Get the 2025 suite of updated CANDE programs, manuals and tutorials. Now available to freely download from the CANDE Website, CandeForCulverts.com.

CANDE-2025 is the latest version in the series of CANDE programs that have built upon the AASHTO-sponsored CANDE-2007/2011 program maintained by TRB. The updated CANDE-2025 Suite of Programs and Documentation include the latest AASHTO design criteria for thermoplastic culverts and corrections to AASHTO's equation for global buckling of deeply corrugated steel culverts.

Three important updates and improvements that conform with the current AASHTO LRFD specifications for thermoplastic pipe design criteria (HDPE, PVC, and PP) are listed below.

(1) The capacity for material thrust failure now includes AASHTO’s
thermoplastic thrust-strain limits applicable to both short-term and long-term loading durations.

(2) AASHTO’s current equation for predicting global buckling capacity (Eq. 12.12.3.10.1e-2) may now be selected to assess the global buckling design criterion.

(3) In addition to selecting either a short-term or a long-term Young’s modulus for a CANDE analysis, a new mixed-term option is now available that allows changing Young’s modulus from long-term to short-term values during the load-step schedule. The mixed- term option is ideally suited for load rating analysis.

For deeply corrugated steel culverts, the “Kb” term in AASHTO Equation 12.8.9.6-1 to predict global buckling capacity is incorrectly written in the LRFD Specification (verified by developer). The CANDE-2025 program correctly computes the Kb term as explained in the 2025 CANDE manuals.

Input directions for using all the above updates are clearly described the CANDE-2025 User Manual and fully documented in the CANDE-2025 Solution & Formulations Manual as well as demonstrated in the CANDE-2025 Tutorial of Applications.
